A new heat-resistant printed film is to be launched by European
packaging group Sealed Air Cryovac, allowing in-store bakeries to
bake products in already labelled packaging.

Set to be launched by the end of the year, the Cryovac system will allow retailers to place pre-packaged and pre-labelled goods directly into the oven - making production more efficient and operator-friendly.

Cryovac communications manager Nicolas Delplancq told bakeryandsnacks.com: "Baguettes can be baked for about 10 to 15 minutes and still form a crust. It takes the same time and gives the same quality."

"This is very easy for manufacturers. It gives added value, time saving and allows better hygiene."

Delplancq continued: "The main benefit for the store is no more packaging problems: you don't have to order bags or films separately."

Last year, Cryovac developed Bake-Ready perforated film which allows retailers to store and cook the bread in its primary pack.

Three varieties of the film, with different levels of perforation, were pioneered by the company for crusty bread, semi-crusty bread or pastry and soft bread.

The film is suitable for all types of bread as well as focaccia, pizza, croissants and pastries.

In Britain, major retailer Tesco was the first retailer in the UK to roll out the technology in its Tesco Express outlets last year.
