Ezaki Glico enters JV in Korea

Japanese firm Ezaki Glico has entered a joint venture with Haitai Confectionery Food to sell its Pocky chocolate candy in Korea.

According to Ezaki Glico, the South Korean confectionery market is worth 3 trn 700 bn South Korean won ($3.3bn) and has been growing 7-8% each year in recent times.

Seoul-headquartered firm Haitai Confectionery will continue to sell in Korea, but will now support Ezaki Glico through its sales network.

Ezaki Glico will begin selling Pocky chocolate in Korea from early June 2013. By 2018, it is expecting to sell 50 bn won ($44.8m) worth in Korea.

Pocky is sold in France under the Mikado brand.

Over the past few years, Ezaki Glico has been expanding in South East Asia, having upped its presence in Indonesia and entered Vietnam in 2012.
