First prize at the show’s New Product Showcase was awarded to a snack by a German firm Intersnack.
Top prize: Pop Corners by Intersnack
Intersnack’s Pop Corners are slowly popped corn in crispy triangles that comes in a sweet or sea salt variety. The company claims it has introduced a novel shape for popcorn that will shake up the snack aisle.
Runner-up: Finger Pup'pets by Belfine
Second prize went to Belgian chocolatier Belfine for its ‘Finger Pup’pets’, which are chocolate circus characters and finger puppets for children and adults.
Third place: Likies by Hans Freitag
Thumbs-up shaped biscuit ‘Likies’ by German firm Hans Freitag came in at third by capitalizing on the trend for small bites. The products use UTZ Certified cocoa, capturing another market demand sustainable products.
The winners were decided by 80 international journalists and announced at the fair in Cologne, Germany today.
The winners saw off competition from 145 other new products by 89 companies. A display of all the products can be found at the New Product Showcase just outside Hall 5.
