The Indiana State Department of Health learned that packages of Original Skittles sold at a Richmond, Marathon Food Mart contained unconfirmed chemical substances, according to preliminary tests.
However, further analysis has shown that they were not contaminated. The agency said it continues to investigate the cause of illnesses.
Two people were treated for burning throats, cramping and diarrhea before being released from hospital earlier this week.
“It is not uncommon for equipment available in the field to yield results that are found to be different than those obtained in a laboratory test," said an Indiana State Department of Health statement.
