Ghirardelli Minis will be marketed as a share bag intended for everyday consumption. The company said the product offered more sales opportunities than its existing individually wrapped Ghirardelli Squares, which are meant more for special occasions and gifting.
“Ghirardelli developed Minis to become even more relevant for more chocolate occasions,” Sylvia Kälin, corporate communications at Lindt, told ConfectioneryNews.
“Minis is a high growth format in total chocolate in the USA and is a trend in many other food categories and experiences. We found that the smaller size is better for on-the-go snacking, for more sharing with others and is a smaller portion so that our chocolate can be enjoyed on more occasions.”
The Minis are packaged in stand-up pouches with a matte finish and are half the size of Ghirardelli Squares. The product will be available in the US from 1 May this year.
