It claims the patent-pending packaging design is the first of its kind to combine thermoformed technology with a sliding lid.
'Nothing like this on the market'
Kim Sanderson, marketing specialist, Sonoco Alloyd, told FoodProductionDaily, it will officially launch DivvyPack at PackExpo on September 28.
“There is nothing else like this on the market - the sliding lid that locks in the closed position is unique,” she said.
“We plan to exhibit DivvyPack at PackExpo, and demonstrate even when dropped, heavy products will not pop out of the package. Taper evidence is also an available option. The configurations of this custom package are endless.”
The design of the DivvyPack enables manufacturers to contain “divvy” products in a multi-style package, like candy.
The lid slides away without opening completely, making it easy to dispense a singular product from a multi-product package.
Interlocking channels along the sides of the sliding lid and tray allow for one handed opening and reclosing of the package, with an audible snap when the locking is closed.
Secondary food packaging
Sanderson said the product took several months to develop, led by Diana Rud, a Sonoco Alloyd engineer who designed the blister pack.
“The DivvyPack works for secondary food packaging such as pre-wrapped candies, mints and cough drops,” she added.
“The packaging can be expanded to other products because all Sonoco Alloyd blisters and cards are custom made; we do not offer a stock blister program.
“The flat clear lid and customizable shape also offers a variety of marketing options.”
The DivvyPack package will be demonstrated at Pack Expo 2015 tradeshow in Las Vegas, September 28-30.
