Bosch Doy Zip vertical bagger for chocolate and nuts to be extended to other food applications

Bosch has partnered with Amcor to create the best material for its SVE 2520DZ Doy Zip vertical bagger, currently used for chocolate, nuts and confectionery.

Amcor's R&D team worked with Bosch to understand the machine and develop ZipSpeed, a PET/PE laminate with excellent seal strength and a smoother appearance when applying reclosable zippers.

Machine speed of 100 packs per minute

Patrick Largarde, manager, engineering and design, Bosch Packaging Technology, told ConfectioneryNews the machine is for the chocolate, nuts and confectionery market segment but it has plans, depending on customer feedback, to extend the Doy Zip to other food applications.

He said Bosch chose to partner with Amcor to develop the optimal material to match the machine's performance.

In trials, the ZipSpeed material ran at full machine speed of 100 packs per minute. It also has a wider sealing temperature range, from 100 – 180°C, for laminates than standard materials.

"We worked closely with Amcor in the development of ZipSpeed, a perfect film for high quality Doy Zip bags, with good runability on Bosch SVE 2520DZ,'' said Lagarde.

ZipSpeed seal temperature range

Bosch claims SVE 2520DZ is the fastest Doy Zip vertical bagger on the market based on an internal competitor’s research done by its in-house team.

Joachim Pietzsch, R&D director, Amcor Flexibles, added: “The ZipSpeed seal temperature range is from 100 – 180°C which allows customers to use lower seal temperatures.”

At the same time, the material has high heat resistance for the application of recloseable zippers.

To maximise performance on the machine, we developed a clever sealing application that eliminates the need to punch holes to form and seal the bags

This creates simplified and faster processing.”
