Magic Candy Factory takes 3D custom-made candy machine to the US

Katjes Magic Candy Factory, in the UK, has partnered with Dylan’s Candy Bar to take its 3D candy printer, which can create custom-made candies in under five minutes, to the US.

Dylan’s Candy Bar will be the firm’s exclusive partner for domestic retail and online sales.

Gummy cards & gifts

The Magic Candy Factory printer will be housed in stores, offering over 100 designs to choose from, the ability to write names or special words, draw candy creations and print greetings on gummy cards to create gifts.

Melissa Snover, managing director, Magic Candy Factory, told ConfectioneryNews customers can select a color and flavor with a ‘magic’ finish for $20 per print.

The gummies come in vegan, gluten, and dairy free ingredients as an alternative to gelatin and have natural fruit and vegetable extracts.

We are excited to bring our 3D printed confectionery to the US. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination. With the product you're able to create any customized candy that you can imagine," said Snover.

I have been a fan of Dylan’s Candy Bar since I started in the confectionery industry six years ago. Their experimental retail environment and ‘customer comes first’ service makes them the perfect fit for the magical innovation we have developed.”

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)

The Magic Candy Factory is based on Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), which heats a mixture of vegan ingredients and applies them using a nozzle to produce different shapes.

The shapes are then turned into coded instructions, from a tablet in-store, telling the printer what speed and frequency it needs to apply each of the layers.

The process takes approximately 10 minutes from start to finish, with a three- to five-minute printing time.

Dylan’s Candy Bar and the Magic Candy Factory will launch eight colors in flavors including Sublime Strawberry and Beautiful Blackcurrant.

‘Magic’ finishing touches include glitter, sour or fizzy ‘dust’, with more options to be launched depending on the season.

The edible sweets will be rolled out across select stores this month including New York and Chicago, it will have an online shop and there will be a Nationwide Consumer Weekend Celebration on June 9 and 10.

The next store debuts are Los Angeles on May 28, and Miami on June 1.
