Mars said the production cost rise has caused it to shrink the size of Maltesers' packs.
Mars has been shrunk its Maltesers brand from 121g to 103g per bag without changing the price of the product, according to a tweet by UK-based food retailer turned insight provider, Steve Dresser.

He also pointed out that Mars reduced Galaxy Counters from 126g to 112g per bag.

A spokesperson from the M&Ms owner later responded, "Like all chocolate manufacturers, we have seen the cost of raw materials rise and, while we try to absorb these pressures as much as possible, sometimes we have to make the difficult decision to reduce the size of some of our products so our consumers can continue to enjoy an affordable treat.

“Our focus is always on offering consumers our great tasting, high quality chocolate brands at the best value for money,” the company added.

In a similar move, Mondelēz widened the gaps between its Toblerone chocolate bar’s triangular chunks, which resulted in reducing 400g bars to 360g and 170g bars to 150g, to avoid a production price hike earlier this month.
