Haribo includes Halal and vegetarian candies in first UK retail store

Gummy manufacturer Haribo has opened its first UK-based retail store in the UK at London Designer Outlet (LDO) in Wembley Park, London.

The 1,440-suqare-foot store offers a selection of confectionery products that complement what is already available within the country, such as party packs and sharing formats, according to Haribo.

Additionally, shoppers can purchase exclusive merchandise as well as Haribo products from other parts of the world including halal and vegetarian sweets.

Herwig Vennekens, managing director of Haribo UK, said, “We’re very excited to have opened our first outlet store, a decision that supports our continued success while also demonstrating just what the brand has to offer with regards to product and pack variety.”

“While this is a new concept for the UK, Haribo stores are very popular across Europe,” he added. “In France, we have 12 [stores], each offering an exclusive mix of treats… We certainly feel that LDO is the perfect place to open our first here in the UK [since it is] positioned at the capital’s only fashion and lifestyle outlet center.”

Haribo is the largest gummy player in the UK market followed by Nestlé’s Rowntree’s brand and Mondelēz-owned Maynard’s, according to Euromonitor. It currently operates two manufacturing facilities in West Yorkshire in the UK, which employs more than 700 people.
