Jaffa Cakes gets creative with cola
Iconic British snack, the Jaffa Cake – a soft base covered in orange jelly and chocolate – is most famous for baffling tax authorities in the 1990s when they were tasked with deciding whether it was indeed a cake (and therefore exempt from value-added-tax – currently 20%) or a biscuit which would be taxed. Manufacturer Mcvitie’s managed to prove it was indeed a cake. Storied past aside, the firm is hoping to draw in a new audience with a cola bottle-flavoured iteration. It’s the first ever non-fruit twist on the classic cake, having previously launched limited edition raspberry and lime varieties.
Shoppers can buy McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Cola Bottle flavour in recyclable packs of 10, priced at £1.25 per pack.
