The company does not intend to bring the product to the UK. All volumes produced in Halifax will be exported to the US.
Nestlé opts for Halifax
“Nestlé’s Halifax factory has been chosen as the factory site to produce the increasingly popular Butterfinger ‘Peanut Butter Cups’ for Nestlé USA - beating stiff competition from factories internally and externally across the world,” Avni Raval, corporate communications manager at Nestlé UK, told ConfectioneryNews.
“It was launched during the US Super Bowl and has since been flying off the shelves. Due to popular demand in the US, we’ve increased our investment in the UK and created new jobs to produce 5,500 tonnes to export over to the US.”
Forty-five additional jobs
Nestlé introduced Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups across US retail stores in January 2014 to provide competition to category leader Hershey’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Nestlé USA will go on producing the product, but the US site has reached capacity. "Since its launch the product has been doing amazingly well, and has been in short supply ever since," said Raval.
UK chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne visited the Halifax factory yesterday and announced that Nestlé’s investment would create 45 new jobs.
The Halifax factory produces Quality Street, After Eight and Easter eggs and employs around 1,000 people at peak production.
