The deal gives Tangerine the right to use the Vimto Bon Bon brand and launch the sweets back to the UK market.
The product was previously manufactured by UK confectioner Milar McCowan’s, which went into administration last year before being bought out by Tangerine for an undisclosed sum.
Going soft
Tangerine has said that the new versions of the sweets are softer “fitting well with the market trend for softer eating confectionery“.
In keeping with the trend, the company also recently launched multipacks for its Henry Goode’s Soft Eating Liquorice Bars.
The Vimto Bon Bons will come in 165g bags or jars and will retail at £1.
Helen Hartley, Tangerine marketing manager, said: “The Vimto flavour appeals to all ages and the brand is a firm household name.”
Licensed Vimto confectionery
Tangerine also holds a license on Vimto Fizzy Rippa, formerly Rip Roll and Vimto Spaghetti.
Vimto has license agreements with a number of other companies for its branded confectionery range.
Humdinger Foods, part of Zetar Confectionery, has rights to Vimto Fruit Rope, Vimto Fruit Numbers and Vimto Fruit Loops
Leaf, the manufacturer of Chewits, has a deal on a series of Vimto branded chews. Swizzels Matlow also has rights on some chew bars, while the company Rose has a deal on Vimto spray candy.
Tangerine activity
Tangerine has overseen a number of launches and changes in the last few months.
At the turn of the year, it appointed ex-Northern Foods managing director Graham Hunter as its new CEO, as former head Chris Marshall moved into a non-executive role.
Soon after the appointment, Tangerine acquired Smith Kendon Travel Sweets and York Fruits from private ownership for an undisclosed fee.
Through the Milar McCowan’s acquisition, Tangerine has relaunched two other McCowan's brands: Highland Toffee and the Wham bar.
