The former long-term CEO of German sugar confectioner Haribo has died aged 90.

Hans Riegel served as head of the company from 1946 until the summer of this year when he was taken ill and marketing director Felix Theato was named as interim CEO in August.

Hans Riegel was the eldest son of Haribo founder Hans Riegel senior, inventor of the gummi bear.

Riegel junior took up the reigns of the company in 1946 upon his release from a POW camp after his father passed away in 1945.
